Patagonia Gold Advances Calcatreu Project with New Technical Report

“Paper gold, paper project: Calcatreu means nothing for your stack”

Here’s the reality for your physical stack: a preliminary economic assessment (PEA) from a junior mining company like Patagonia Gold for a project in Argentina means absolutely nothing for the immediate supply of physical gold or silver in the market. This is paper news about a paper project, years if not decades away from potentially producing an ounce of metal, if it ever does. Your physical holdings are driven by actual supply and demand, central bank policy, and the relentless debasement of fiat currency, not by a report filed with the TSXV.

The mining industry is complex, and these PEAs are a dime a dozen. They're a mandatory step, but they represent the very start of a long, arduous, and capital-intensive journey. To put it in perspective, it typically takes 10 to 15 years from discovery to commercial production for a significant gold or silver mine. That's assuming everything goes perfectly: permitting, financing, construction, community relations, and commodity prices remaining favorable enough to justify the massive upfront investment. Historically, only a small fraction of projects that reach the PEA stage ever make it to actual production.

This kind of news also overlooks the bigger picture of global gold and silver supply. Despite gold hitting new all-time nominal highs, and silver showing significant strength, we are not seeing a flood of new discoveries or a rapid increase in mine output. Global gold mine production peaked around 3,500 metric tons in 2018 and has struggled to surpass that since. High-grade discoveries are increasingly rare, and the average grade of ore being mined continues to decline, meaning more rock has to be processed for the same amount of metal. Bringing a new project online, even one with decent economics in a PEA, does little to change the fundamental supply constraints in the short to medium term.

So, while Patagonia Gold’s shareholders might see some speculative interest, for those of us holding physical metal, this report holds no weight. It will not impact the availability of physical metal, premiums at your local coin shop, or the long-term purchasing power of your gold and silver. Physical demand remains robust, particularly from central banks and global retail stackers, which is a far more significant driver of the market than an early-stage project in South America. The physical market is tight, and that is not changing based on this.

Keep your eyes on the macro environment: inflation data, central bank policy, and geopolitical developments. Those are the forces that will truly impact your stack. Gold is currently trading around 4145.9 and silver at 57.4, with a ratio of 72.2:1. What matters next is how central banks react to ongoing inflation readings.
