The Stack Signal — August 5, 2026

“Silver clears $60 on real demand while Treasury signals expose systemic stress beneath the hawkish talk.”

The single most important thing today is this: silver is knocking on the door of $60, and the official story about why is wrong. Spot sits at $61.61 as of this morning, which means silver has already broken through that psychological level and kept moving. The mainstream narrative wants to frame this as a rotation out of inflation hedges as oil cools off. That is backwards. A 2.4% single-day surge backed by Fresnillo reporting tripled mining profits is not a market retreating from an inflation story. That is a market repricing silver's fundamental value as both monetary metal and critical industrial input. When miners are printing money at these levels, the price signal is real.

The thread connecting all seven articles today is systemic stress being papered over with official language. On one side you have silver's price action telling you something true. On the other side you have Fed governor Schmid talking tough about tighter policy while Treasury Secretary Bessent is quietly moving to upsize the FIMA repo facility for foreign central banks. Those two things cannot both be true at the same time. You do not expand emergency dollar liquidity facilities for foreign central banks when the system is healthy and policy is genuinely tightening. You do that when you are trying to prevent a cascade. Add in Bessent publicly nudging the Bank of Japan toward rate hikes to arrest yen weakness, and the picture that emerges is a Treasury department playing whack-a-mole with currency instability it helped create. The Fed talks hawkish. The plumbing tells a different story.

For your stack, the gold-silver ratio at 68.5 with gold at $4223 and silver at $61.61 is the number to sit with this morning. Silver is outperforming, and if the ratio continues compressing toward the mid-60s or below, the relative value case for silver over gold strengthens further in the near term. Physical silver stackers who have been accumulating on ratio weakness are seeing that thesis begin to pay out. The miner profit story also matters here because sustained profitability at these price levels does not suppress the metal the way some expect. It validates the price floor and attracts capital that eventually finds its way into physical demand. Do not let the noise about receding inflation concerns shake you out of a position the data is confirming.

The one thing to watch is whether the FIMA facility expansion actually gets announced and at what scale. If Bessent moves from signaling to action on upsizing that facility, it means the dollar liquidity stress is worse than the public statements admit. That is the kind of behind-the-scenes monetary loosening that has historically been a hard catalyst for gold and silver, not a gradual one. Watch the Fed's balance sheet disclosures and any formal Treasury announcements on FIMA in the next two to three weeks. If that shoe drops, the metals move you are watching today will look like the early innings.
