The Stack Signal — August 14, 2026

“Soft PPI, Fed retreat, and a 68 ratio — the setup for metals is solidifying.”

The single most important thing today is this: soft PPI data did not break gold. At $4,405 spot, gold is consolidating near all-time territory while rate hike bets evaporate, and that combination is exactly the setup long-term stackers have been waiting for. The knee-jerk algo selling you saw in the overnight session was paper noise. The physical market is not confused about what softening producer prices mean for the Fed's next move.

Here is how today's articles connect. Every piece I wrote this morning circles the same core dynamic: cooling inflation data is being misread by short-term traders as bearish for metals, when the actual implication runs the other way. Lower PPI feeds into lower rate hike probability, which compresses real yields, which removes the primary argument bears have used against gold for two years. On top of that, Richmond Fed President Barkin's 'open question' framing on future hikes is not ambiguity, it is retreat dressed up in central bank language. The Fed does not want to hike into a slowing economy, and they do not want to admit they cannot hit 2% without breaking something. That fog is structural, and structural fog is gold's friend.

For your stack, the concrete implication is straightforward. Silver at $64.8 with a gold/silver ratio sitting at 68 tells you silver is still undervalued relative to gold by historical standards. A ratio in the high 60s during a period of fading rate pressure has historically resolved toward silver outperformance. If you are underweight silver, this window is worth paying attention to. For gold holders, the $4,350 level that held on this morning's dip is now your near-term floor reference. Nothing in today's macro picture suggests that level is under serious threat.

The one thing to watch going forward is next week's CPI print and whether it continues the PPI's softening trajectory. If it does, the 'open question' on rate hikes closes fast, and you will likely see institutional money rotate harder into metals as the rate-cut narrative firms up. Watch the two-year Treasury yield as your leading indicator. If it breaks lower on the CPI data, gold has room to run and the ratio has room to compress. Stay patient, stay physical.
