The Stack Signal — September 29, 2026

“Paper market sold the Fed headline; physical stackers should read the admission buried inside it.”

The single most important thing today is what is not happening: gold is not breaking down. Six separate articles hit my feed this morning all running variations of the same headline — yields surge, Fed gets hawkish, gold's lustre dims. When the mainstream financial press coordinates that hard around a narrative, pay attention to what they are trying to get you to do. They want you to sell. Spot is sitting at $4186 with silver at $61.16 and a ratio of 68.4, and the paper market had a brief wobble down to the $4155 range intraday before recovering. That is not a breakdown. That is a shakeout.

What connects all six articles today is the same underlying admission dressed up in bearish clothing. The reason yields are surging and the Fed is talking tough is inflation and unsustainable debt. That is the thesis for owning physical metal, not an argument against it. The macro piece on mounting pressures — inflation, debt, supply chain shocks — is the honest version of the story the gold-is-fading headlines are trying to bury. When a central bank is forced into a hawkish posture because it lost control of inflation, that is not a reason to sell real money. That is the confirmation that real money was right all along. The Fed hiked into the 2022 cycle and gold ultimately made new all-time highs. The pattern is not new.

For your stack, nothing changes today. If you have dry powder and you have been waiting for a pullback, the paper market just handed you one. Physical premiums have not moved with this dip, so the arbitrage window is narrow, but the spot price softness is real enough to matter on larger purchases. Silver at $61 with a ratio of 68.4 continues to look historically undervalued relative to gold. That ratio has room to compress toward the 60 to 65 range, and when it does, silver outperforms. If you are rebalancing or adding, silver is where the math still favors you.

The signal to watch is the 10-year Treasury yield. If it continues climbing through current levels without a corresponding move higher in real yields — meaning inflation expectations stay elevated — then the hawkish Fed narrative is hollow and gold will reassert. The paper market can push spot around on nominal yield moves, but gold historically finds its footing when real rates plateau or roll over. Watch the TIPS market this week. That is where the real argument gets settled.
