The Stack Signal — October 9, 2026

“Gold held firm on oil-driven inflation fears while silver lagged, ratio at 69.1, and the Fed stays boxed in.”

This is the Friday recap, and I'm going to be upfront about its limits. The material I have today is a cluster of pieces from this morning's session, not a full week of daily closes, so I'm not going to hand you a day-by-day tape or COMEX inventory and delivery numbers I can't back up. What I can give you is where the week landed and what drove the latest leg. Gold is at $4,220.80 and silver at $61.12, with the gold/silver ratio at 69.1. The articles I wrote earlier today were pegged to gold near $4,172.70 and silver near $59.87, so both metals have bounced since then, silver more than gold (roughly 2.1% versus 1.1%). That nudged the ratio down from about 69.7.

The pattern across today's work is oil and the Fed, pulling in different directions. An oil surge revived inflation worries, and gold firmed on it while silver slid. That divergence is the headline. Gold is acting like the monetary metal it is, while silver gets pulled between its inflation-hedge role and its industrial side when energy costs and growth fears collide. Underneath that sits the Fed story, and the coverage is contradictory: some reports credit easing Treasury yields for gold's modest gains, others point to rate hike risk and rising yields as the inflation fuel. I read that confusion as the signal. The Fed is boxed in between letting yields run and crushing growth, or stepping in and debasing further. Neither path is bad for physical metal over time, but it makes the short-term paper tape noisy.

For your stack, the silver dip from earlier today was the opportunity, and the bounce has already taken some of it back. I wouldn't chase. If you've been waiting to add silver, a ratio near 69 is not stretched in either direction, so this is a steady-accumulation setup, not an all-in one. Keep buying in measured chunks, watch premiums over spot on the products you actually stack, and don't let one day's move in the paper price change your plan. Gold holding firm through a week of mixed yield signals is the part worth noting.

One thing to watch next week: the oil and yields relationship. If oil keeps climbing and yields rise with it, we get a real test of whether gold can hold its footing against hawkish Fed pricing. If yields ease while oil stays firm, that is the cleaner setup for both metals, and silver should stop lagging. Watch the ratio as your tell. A move back above 70 means silver is still being left behind, and a push toward 68 means it's catching up.
